An open letter to our listeners

Dear listener,

You have heard us mention that WCNP is completely listener supported, but there is an aspect of that which we could probably mention more often: This station therefore belongs to you.

We have come to a significant crossroads and the Advisory Board does not believe it would be appropriate to proceed without your input.

Our General Manager, Dennis Baldridge, has announced his retirement next Spring and he definitely deserves a season of rest. He built this station with his own hands and continues to keep it running on a day-to-day basis. Click here to read an interview with our founder.

None of the volunteers are able to handle either the general management duties or the technical aspects of daily operations, so that leaves us with a critical choice to make: Do we maintain local ownership and control of the station or, perhaps, sell it?

Selling the station would certainly be the easiest path, but it would result in changes to the music style and teaching programs. There is no way to predict the extent of those changes, so this is definitely not our preferred course.

Our vision for the station is continued independence so we can maintain our current format, but to do so would require a significant increase in our annual budget so we can hire personnel to assume the roles Dennis has fulfilled on a volunteer basis. We therefore need your help as we seek answers to the following questions:

Is there sufficient interest amongst our listeners to keep the station locally owned and operated? Are there listeners who are willing to serve on an transition committee? How can we increase our number of monthly supporters? How can we better work with local churches to spread the word about the station and our vision for the future?

There are probably other questions that need to be considered, so please begin thinking about them, write them down, and bring them to the informational meeting so we can sharpen our vision for the future together.

Thank you so much for being part of the WCNP support team. We look forward to seeing you on December 3rd. In the mean time, feel free to contact us with any questions or comments.
